Novelty search

Once a technical solution (invention) is created, regardless of whether it’s described on paper  or as a prototype, inventors ask themselves one simple question: “Is my invention novel?“. Novelty search could answer that question.
It is important to note that SIPO doesn’t offer a patentability report, a written opinion or an examination report. Instead we search, select and categorize documents according to their relevancy. This gives an applicant a chance to assess whether to file a patent application or not.
For example, the customer will receive a search report containing cited documents, relevant for the novelty and inventive step of the invention concerned, sorted into three categories:

  • Important
  • Relevant
  • For information only

Benefits for the customer:

  • Basis for assessing the patentability of an invention,
  • Basis for drafting a patent application,
  • Basis for narrowing or broadening the claims,
  • Basis for describing the previous state of the art in a patent application,
  • Basis for assessing possible infringement of rights.

Basic service features:

  • The search is performed using a defined patent application,
  • Average report delivery time: 30 days,
  • Fee: according to actual costs.
